Julie Knows Legislative Process and Testifies to Bring You
Benefits!
Julie
Testified on Senior Drivers' License Issues and Coordinated a Forum!
Julie advocates
for senior drivers to maintain independence through discontinuance of road
and written tests for seniors who must renew their licenses upon turning
75.
DC
Council Public Works Committee Chairman Jim Graham held a Department of
Motor Vehicles oversight hearing on March 5th, in which he agreed with
Julie and AAA Mid- Atlantic that the road
and written tests should be discontinued. Julie argued on basis of safety,
and cost benefits analysis. Graham is inclined to stop the testing, unless
DMV provides a sufficient regulatory justification for the road and written
tests. DC is one of only three states that require those tests of seniors.
Many seniors attended a March 7th forum Julie coordinated and signed the
petition Julie developed to stop the road and written tests for seniors.
Julie forwarded the petitions to Councilmember Jim Graham for support of
his legislation. A vote for Julie would land her on the Committee so she
could vote for this legislation.
D.C.
seniors subject to license renewal can contact Mr. David Vacca of the DC Council at (202) 724-8181, to voice
their support for Mr. Graham's legislation to empower senior drivers, by
stopping the road and written tests.
Julie Seeks Legislation to Address Subprime
Mortgage Lending in DC!
Ward 7
Has High Concentration of Subprime Mortgages!
Julie has asked
Councilmember Mary Cheh to introduce legislation
to address the problems with predatory mortgage lending. Ward 7 has a high
concentration of subprime mortgage lending. This
situation must be addressed to ensure against a large number of
foreclosures in Ward 7. Mrs. Cheh oversees the
banking industry, as Chairperson of the Consumer and Regulatory Affairs
Committee of the DC City Council.
Mrs. Cheh held a March hearing addressing pay-day loans and
predatory lending. Julie asked The Association for Responsible Lending to
testify about such matters before the Committee.
Skyland Project Was
Subject of an Economic Development Hearing.
Julie
Testified to Keep Skyland Development Project
Moving Forward!
Julie submitted testimony to the DC City Council's Economic
Development Committee, requesting that the Skyland
Development Project continues its forward march. Councilmember Evans
introduced legislation to eliminate both The NCRC and The AWC and transfer
The Skyland Development Project to the Mayor,
which could impose added delays. Julie sought to sidestep the controversy
surrounding those entities, while ensuring that the Skyland
Project proceeded without interruption. Ward 7 residents have been awaiting
this development for over ten years and want a Target or other big box
retailer, a sit-down restaurant and other amenities to locate at the
planned site.
Julie
loves Ward 7 and is unrelenting in her efforts to improve all 29
communities within Ward 7. She's our best bet for aggressive, independent,
and able leadership to advance and unite the Ward! Vote May 1: JULIE RONES
- NUMBER 10 ON THE BALLOT!
